Searching for Answers: Encountering the Truth: Why Do We Baptize?
Prequel 2 – Why Do We Baptize? – Next Sunday, we will gather to remember our Baptism, the other of the two Sacraments recognized by our denomination. As United Methodists, we understand the Sacrament of Baptism as a means of grace — an outward and visible sign of an inward grace initiated by God. But what does this mean? How does it connect us to Jesus who was also Baptized? Does this splash of ordinary water applied in worship really make us different? Martin Luther once said that “baptism is something that’s done in church one day but takes the rest of our lives to complete.” What happens with us after the water has dried?
