The New Shady Grove Church Directories are here!! They may be picked up anytime Monday thru Friday in the church office located in the basement beneath the sanctuary from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Family Block Party from 3 to 5:30 on Sunday, September 12: Come out and celebrate Shady Grove Kick Off with a Family Block Party. Gather your family, friends and neighbors to experience a great time with games, inflatable fun, food, music, and more. The cost is $5 a person with a $20 maximum per family. Children under 2 are free. Many volunteers are needed to help with games, food and inflatable fun. Please contact Valerie Halferty at 559-1637 or kirbyhalferty@comcast.net if you are willing to give 30 minutes or more to help make this event a success! The Children's Ministry Team would like to invite rising K through 5th graders to a fun day at Westview on the James, Wednesday, September 1. Younger children are invited with an adult. We will leave the parking lot at 9am and will return at 3pm. We will enjoy swimming, craft and Bible story. All donations are welcome. Each UMW circle is asked to provide at least 3 items. You can also bring the items to the church office clearly marked for the bazaar silent auction. All items must be turned in by September 24th. Thanks for your support. It’s Cub Scout time!!! We are gearing up for another great year! Boys who will be in first through fifth grades are eligible to join. Cub Scout Pack 544 has been active at Shady Grove and the Mechanicsville Community for the past 30 years. We participate in several service projects including Scouting for Food as well as fun things like camping trips and making pinewood derby cars. Our regular meeting night is Thursday from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm with meetings beginning on September 16. Serving as an Acolyte or Crucifer This Coming Year: Children and teens from third grade through twelfth grade are needed to serve as Acolytes and Crucifers during the 8:15, 9:45 and 11:00 services. If you (or your child) would be interested in this ministry, the training meeting will be held on Sunday, September 19th right after the 11:00 service. Church School Supplies: While you are out there shopping all the BIG sales The Sunday School Resource room is in need of a few items: Glue (sticks and bottled), crayons, markers, dry erase markers, pencils, masking tape, transparent tape, paper clips, staples, Ziploc bags (gallon and sandwich size), baby wipes. Please leave donations in the Sunday School Resource Room. !!!Thank you!!! Military Prayer List: We would like to bring this list current. If you have a loved one serving in the military and stationed overseas in one of the war zones, would you please send us his or her name to be included in the prayer list. The names that are currently listed will be deleted and we will begin anew. Email the names to cindy@shadygroveumc.org or contact her at 746-9073. Looking Ahead: September 12: We are kicking off a new Sunday School year. On this Sunday, (a.k.a. Promotion Sunday) all children will advance to their new classes. September 14: Mechanicsville Fellowship Club for seniors will resume here at Shady Grove UMC at 10:30 a.m. Come with a covered dish to share and join your friends and catch up on all the news of the summer. Invite a friend! September 15: Wednesday Night At The Grove begins, 5:30 pm Dinner. Cost: $5 - Adults, $2 - children ages to 3-11 and $15 family cap. Reservations required. 6:30 p.m. Class Registration. There is something for everybody! September 19: CROSSFIRE Youth Kick-off, Parents and youth alike are invited. There will be food, games, music, worship, and a sneak peek at some of the hilarious videos we’ll be using in the fall’s Reality Check. Be here from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Dinner is provided, and siblings are welcome. Children’s Choirs: New practice day and time, Sunday afternoons from 5 to 5:45 pm. There is a choir for 4-year-olds through 6-year-olds and a choir for children in grades 2 through 5. Hope to see you all there!!! September 20: The United Methodist Women will be inviting all ladies of the church to attend their next UMW meeting at 6:30 p.m. Plan now to RSVP so we can plan for enough food. |
