Disciples in Action will be going to Monroe Park to feed the homeless on Saturday January 28. 

We plan to meet in the Shady Grove kitchen at 9:30 a.m., prepare a simple meal and stuff gift bags for the men and women at the park.  We will then go to the park and hand out the food and bags.  We should be finished by noon.  We need folks of all ages to help.  If you can join us in this project, please sign-up by January 25 on the mission bulletin board that is located by the elevator on the first floor.  We also need items for the bags such as toothpaste and brushes, socks, combs, and gloves.  If you can contribute any of these items, please put them in the Mission Zone (located on the first floor of the Gym building) in the area marked DIA.

Our children and youth classes always welcome a few pairs of extra hands!  If you have an hour to serve as the 2nd adult (just the helper, not the leader, no preparation involved!) please contact the following persons to find out how you can spend an hour, as your schedule allows, caring and nurturing for the youngest in our church family!

Audiovisual Upgrades for the sanctuary:  Our church council has approved several wonderful improvement to our worship space.  The planned upgrades include: a state of the art speaker system, a motorized screen and the relocation of the audio console.  These upgrades will cost approximately $50,000.  To make a donation towards these enhancements, please make your check payable to Shady Grove UMC and mark A/V Upgrades in the memo line. 

Occupy the Mountain Finding Clarity in the Crowd Our Current Sermon Series You've heard of the movement dubbed Occupy Wall Street.  It started as a protest against social and economic inequality, but has expanded to include many other causes beyond its original intent.  Some of the people participating readily admit that they struggle to find common ground.  As a result, the aim of the protestors has become unclear and convoluted.  We in the church fall victim to the same confusion of purpose.  We are influenced by so many worldly causes that we easily forget what is truly important.  Join us as we use the Sermon on the Mount as a vehicle to bring clarity to the same modern day issues that concerned the first century Christians to whom Jesus preached.  If you would like more information, please contact the church office by email or by phone at (804)746-9073.
