Journey to Bethlehem: Our Dreams — Rev. Jay Kelchner
Shady Grove United Methodist Church   -

The road to Bethlehem goes through our dreams. The ancient text tells us that Mary should be publically disgraced. The Bible says that she should be taken out in the square and stoned to death. If Joseph followed the letter of the Law, he could dispense of this problem that was created by no fault of his own. The trouble is that Joseph is a good man and he looks at the situation through the lens of God’s grace and the spirit of our created order. He is troubled and in his despair and fatigue, he falls asleep. In the quiet of the evening, another way forward is suggested. God provides another possibility for love to win. In a dream, Joseph gains new perspective.
Scripture: Matthew 1:18-25
