| What is a Parish Nurse? |
A parish nurse is a Registered Nurse who has received special education to provide health care in a church setting. The Parish Nurse focuses on the body, mind and spirit of individuals as it relates to achieving wellness and managing illness.
Since its beginning in 1984, parish nursing has been viewed as an expression of the healing ministry. Shady Grove parish nursing begin in March, 1997.
The roles of the parish nurse include health educator, counselor, referral agent and facilitator.
As an educator, the parish nurse teaches, supports and assists members in achieving a healthy lifestyle.
As a health counselor, the parish nurse has personal consultation with members regarding their health concerns.
As a referral agent, the parish nurse assists members in accessing community resources.
As facilitator, the parish nurse organizes volunteers and committees within the church to provide supportive services for members.

| What does the Parish Nurse do? |
The parish nurse is a member of the Shady Grove community and uses professional nursing expertise to help facilitate the healing mission of the church. The parish nurse ministry at Shady Grove offers:
Counsel regarding health issues and community services.
Education on health issues.
Home visits by an RN upon request.
Non-medical volunteers to provide transportation to medical appointments.
Non-medical volunteers to sit with an invalid while the caregiver runs errands.
A loan closet which houses home health medical equipment such as: walkers, wheel chairs, bedside commodes and hospital beds.
Periodic blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screening.

Call on the parish nurse to help with your personal health care needs and concerns.
Refer parishioners who would benefit from teh services of the parish nurse.
Volunteer your time and talent to the parish nurse ministry.
Donate unneeded home health medical equipment.
