Long Term Bible Study

Studying Our Faith
Christian Believer
Christian Believer is a study of the doctrines of the Christian faith. Over the 30 weeks of study, the participants explore the central teachings of the Christian faith and relate those teachings to Scripture.

Participants will become familiar with doctrines and their interconnectedness.
"Like building blocks, one belief rests on another, leans against another, touches another; and out of such building blocks of belief comes faithful lives and communities centered in the gospel of Jesus Christ and sent forth by the Holy Spirit to point others to God."
The class requires daily preparation in addition to the weekly class sessions. The assigned readings and reflections are drawn from the Bible and Christian writings. Topics covered in the study include The Holy Spirit, Scripture, Grace, Salvation, Atonement, the Trinity, Sacraments, and Eternal Life.

Companions in Christ
Companions in Christ is a small group resource for spiritual formation. The study is designed to create a setting where Shady Grove members can respond to God's call to an ever-deepening communion and wholeness in Christ–as individuals, members of the group and as a part of the congregation.

The study provides participants with an overview of the Christian spiritual life through a 30-week journey which includes spiritual disciplines of prayer, Scripture, ministry, worship, study, and Christian conversation. Companions in Christ utilizes resources which include selected scripture readings as well as writings from historic and contemporary Christian leaders and writers. The two primary components are individual daily readings and exercises and a weekly two hour meeting.

Though Comanions in Christ is not an introductory couse in Christianity, it is a study for church people who want to explore afresh teh basic disciplines of faith and pathways of a lifelong growth in Christ.

Studying the Bible
Disciple Bible Study
John Wesley wrote of the interdependence of four elemnts in the foundation of Methodism. These are Scripture, Tradition, Experience and Reason. But he stressed Scripture as the foremost of the four. He said, "We rely on the way of salvation given in the Bible. We use the Bible as a touchstone in examining real of supposed revelation. We take it as the final authority in matters of faith and practice. Thus we need to study and interpret it carefully."

Many people at Shady Grove have grown in their knowledge of Scripture through the Disciple Bible Study Program. Disciple revolves around daily reading of Scripture and weekly meetings of the Disciple Study Group. These groups are kept small so that discussion and group interaction can be encouraged. Each individual uses his or her own Bible and is guided through the daily readin by a study manual.
